New One-shot: Mass Tragedy Unit

Looking for players and DM feedback.

TW: discussing pandemic and war trauma.

Emir wrote this one-shot wanting to deal with personal trauma accumulated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the childhood spent in the besieged Sarajevo 1992-1995. We want to create and, hopefully with your help, test new D&D 5e mechanics to reflect those experiences. This is intended to create a more difficult landscape for the players around the table, with a better understanding of what everyone in the city is going through while they do their best to protect them (or whatever other goals they might come to the table to achieve).

What is now turning into a full adventure, no longer just a one-shot, is written for Clerics and other healing classes because everyone else, more or less, is fighting the war on the walls. Thanks for trying it out, please get in touch with any feedback either here or via email: pasanov@outlook.com

March 2020 Update and Just a Stroke of COVID-19

March is behind us and, while usually we might be looking fwd to warmer weather (or the ‘joy’ of pollen season) in the northern hemisphere, everyone in the world mostly has the one thing on their minds and we are pretty much the same. But we’re trying to stay physically distant but emotionally supportive of those around us and our close ones, and we hope you are managing to do the same.

As of April 1st, 2020 three chapters of the module are ready for play testing and we are still looking for Dungeon Masters to introduce them to your adventurers! Whether you want to pick and choose what to insert into your ongoing campaign, or you are looking for a completely new campaign to start, write to us on pasanov@criptext.com and we will let you know how to get your hands on the documents. If you have an itch.io account, it will literally take seconds, and we would love to integrate your feedback and include your names and send you the final product.

Admir is writing a new story set in the village of Tobuk, one of the places you might visit in the Terrors of Kalay adventure module. The time of year is winter but don’t worry, there will still be naked ladies involved. Follow him on instagram to see the newest artwork even if you don’t speak Bosnian.

Kurjanka is a never before seen NPC from Byela.

Emir is working on a TV series pilot for a local competition and it is taking a lot more time than expected. But there will be more module chapters ready and remember, downloading them is the only way to see the updated monsters we have first published 4 months ago now.

Stay safe everyone and keep playing games!

February Progress

We were hoping that there would be more to report this month, but… Life came up. Admir is working on a new comic book and Emir just couldn’t manage to finish writing all of first draft of our first D&D 5e adventure module coming at you straight from Bosnia!

Let’s keep that exclamation point going in the second paragraph: just because we did not finish the complete draft doesn’t mean there isn’t something ready! The first chapter and the introduction to the adventure are ready for your consumption and all we need are volunteer D&D 5e groups of adventurers 5th level and up to start working through them and give us feedback.

The plan is to send the first chapter and the context of the module to any play testers on Monday, and keep releasing more chapters once per week throughout March. Since there are 6 chapters over all, this means we would go into April but if we manage to do two chapters in one week, we will release them both, of course.

So, how can you get involved? Happy you asked, you can contact us, of course! And we’ll be happy to send you the drafts as they become available. But please, please do so only if you are happy to play through as much of the material as you can, and provide constructive feedback.

All play testers will be mentioned and thanked in the final adventure module and we will link back to any social and other media presence you would like to promote. Furthermore, we intend to send all of the play-testers the final product first in PDF and then in print when the opportunity presents itself.

As before, let us know if there is anything else that we should be doing but aren’t. We are learning as we go along, and any help is very welcome. Until next time, have a happy and productive March 2020!

Schooling Kids About D&D and ToK Progress

Only a few weeks after our blog was published and promoted around Bosnian TTRPG Facebook groups and geeky websites, we received word that the monsters Admir dreamed up and Emir statted out will be used in an introductory D&D session in one of Bosnian primary schools.

January Update and Zombie Dice SURVIVAL!

Hello everyone, here’s a brief update about the goings on in our corner of the woods. We hope you’re all playing D&D as much, or even more than you did in 2019, and that you are using our monsters. We know there is a one-shot with some age-appropriate hacks of our monsters happening soon, and we hope we will bring you photos from the session after it happens. But we’d appreciate any of your feedback as well. Whether in the comments below, reddit, or by email, it’s all welcome.

But now, what you were waiting for! We’re fans of short, one page games you can just sit down to play whenever you want, and we’re fans of Zombie Dice. So we decided to create a role-playing one-pager using (mostly) the Zombie Dice you have lying around the house already. And your post-apocalyptic imagination! So good for the dystopian future that seems to be around every corner in the 2020s.

Huh, there it is! Hope you like this bit of change of pace for the blog, and that it makes you keep coming back for more content like it. In the meanwhile, here are some announcements for the beginning of 2020:

  • Continue working on the 5e content set in the world of our monsters.
  • Try and translate the monsters into Bosnian… Going to take a lot of work.
  • Format the monsters so they’re usable in PbtA games (like Dungeon World).

Thanks for your patience and thanks for coming back!

Welcome to Terrors of Kalay!

Welcome, fair traveller and take a seat as we discuss where you’ve come. Byela is a mountain where many monsters prey on people. Where Yaroslav may take over your body, or a Hand Hound might take your hand at a dark crossroads if you’re so unlucky. And yet, even with such horrors, people still try to make a living up here in villages such as Tobuk and Friendovichi, and the mythical village of Kalay.

With such diverse places to visit, how could we not make it possible to do just that? Welcome to the first Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition Monster Compendium made entirely and completely in the South Eastern European country of Bosnia and Herzgovina. Monsters you will find on these here pages were dreamt up by the mind of Admir Delic who, having listened to the traditional Slavic bed time stories of horror and terror, decided to use the resulting traumas in a creative way. His writing slowly turned into comic book making, and without knowing it, he prepared the grounds for amazing journeys of not only his own heroes and anti-heroes, but hopefully yours too.
